What about Weddings in Manitoba?

Are you planning a wedding for the upcoming 2021 and 2022 seasons in Manitoba, Canada? Does the thought of not knowing how many guests you’ll be allowed to have stress you out? Are you thinking about postponing (again)? Would a guideline on how to safely host your event be helpful to you – as you navigate your wedding planning journey with your partner, vendors, and invited guests? If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to any of the questions, know that you are not alone.

As a planner who had 95% of 2020 weddings postpone to 2021, it has been a rollercoaster of a year to say the least. It has been quite a challenge to help guide couples during this global pandemic, simply because the rules are inconsistent across the board, they are constantly changing, and up for interpretation.

Never in my career have I been this humbled, motivated, and challenged to make a change. I just want to be able to do my job properly, without giving couples false hope.

While I understand that weddings are not the top priority for the province, I do believe that it is possible to host safe events in Manitoba. I am confident in the knowledge, experience, and professionalism that my colleagues bring to the table. This once-in-a-lifetime event affects many people including couples like you, vendors that make up the Wedding Industry, and the family and friends that you hope to celebrate with. It takes months and sometimes years to plan a wedding – and all of those plans go out the window whenever a Public Health Order is released.

The 2021 and 2022 wedding season is fast approaching, and we (vendors and couples) simply cannot (financially, mentally, physically, and emotionally) afford going into it without a PLAN. It was important for me to create a survey that gathered feedback directly from couples experiencing the challenges of wedding planning in Manitoba, and thanks to the 537 couples that responded, we were able to create an infographic as a result of the data collected.

My hope is that together with the Manitoba Wedding Industry, our Provincial Government can come up with a PLAN to safely host events for the 2021 and 2022 wedding seasons.
